I have 2 computers. one upstairs and one downstairs. both are connected by Ethernet and are on the same wired network. on one computer i get 60MB and on the other i only get 6MB. why is this? its confusing the heck out of me!!!

Okay, i have a spare laptop lying around and i plugged it in at one location with an ethernet and i got 60mbps. i plugged the same laptop into the other location in my house with ethernet and i get 5mbps. Both these locations are from the same router. However there is an ethernet switch (port) between these 2 locations that direct the ethernet wires around my house.

If both of those ethernet ports go through the same switch and then to the router, then I'd suspect a poorly terminated cable connection.
If only one goes through the switch and the other goes mostly direct to the router, then I'd suspect the switch being the culprit.

Router>switch>downstairs>upstairs. Test locations with laptop were downstairs and upstairs
