core 2 extreme qx6700 - $999
core 2 extreme 6800 - $976.50
core 2 quad q6600 - $845.00
core 2 duo e6700 - $499.00

Top 4 products by Intel for the desktop platform. That's still quite a bit of money. You have 3 chips that are over $800 and the best viable consumer dual core is at 500 (more than an 8800 GTS 8O ). I know that more volume is in the lower end and that's what's been driving down faster, but really, this is pretty amazing. And they are selling these chips!

Top mobile chip
T7600 - $648.49

Top 4 server/workstation chips
$ 1381.00 - xeon 7140m dual core
$ 1381.00 - xeon 7130m dual core
$ 1381.00 - xeon 7120m dual core
$ 1041.65 - xeon 5080 dual core 3.73ghz

Just a different look. I'd never pay that much for any of those chips, but some people are. Intel seems to be having a pricewar only in the space AMD exists. For their stuff that AMD can't touch performance wise, prices remain high.

That's why they are not on my list.

Of course they're expensive, they're the fastest chips. You pay for performance; they're more expensive because they're faster.

It should be pointed out that those are all Netburst chips.

The prices for Core 2 chips has stayed the same since their release. And when they cut them in a few days, the savings on high end chips will be even bigger than on low end.

I really don't see your point here...

yet 2 FX-74s plus a $300 motherboard are...
