Tried putting this PCIE GPU inside this little Dell Desktop and it won't fit! it's too short... the distance between the PCIE ports and the back of the case on the Dell is longer... is there a name for this type of GPU size?
Thank you!
no no no, that's not what i meant. The case is low profile and I put the low profile bracket on it. That's not the issue. I'm talking about the horizontal lengthLooks like you are trying to install a half-height GPU into a full-length (regular) slot. Many low-profile GPUs come with brackets to fit into either slot height. You just have to install the right one.
This is spot on. You can install other than x16 devices in the same slot. PCIe is designed for that. All the way down to x1 devices.Looks like an 8x card, but it should still fit and work in a 16x slot, it just won't fill the slot.
The problem is not the PCIE slot - it's the DISTANCE between the start of the port and the end of the case. It's too far. there has to be a name for this. This is spot on. You can install other than x16 devices in the same slot. PCIe is designed for that. All the way down to x1 devices.
If I remove the metal bracket, the GPU fits in the PCIE slot and even works perfectly - the problem is that the metal bracket is too far away from the motherboard. The GPU looks like it should fit. It may not fill the entire slot, per the previous discussion. That is okay.
That seems odd. That usually happens when the motherboard is misaligned or installed improperly. The bracket can also get bent, same for case for that matter. If I remove the metal bracket, the GPU fits in the PCIE slot and even works perfectly - the problem is that the metal bracket is too far away from the motherboard.
It seems like DELL has a different case form factor that has the exterior of the PCI area panels at a further distance. I'm just trying to figure out what it's called. That seems odd. One other possibility is using the wrong low profile bracket on the GPU.
You should be able to bend back if that is the situation. I assume Dell installed the motherboard so it should be okay.
Can you confirm that the bracket is the proper one or that it is properly attached?
There is only one PCIe mechanical standard that I am aware of. If anything differs then it cannot be called PCIe. Them's the rules. The pictures you show look like every PCIe slot and card I have ever seen. So, how far out of alignment is it? Sometimes you need to loosen the motherboard standoffs to move things into better alignment. Sometimes you need to bend the cards bracket a wee bit. You said the card fits without the bracket. Can we get a picture of this, so we can see how the cards edge is fit into the connecting slot?It seems like DELL has a different case form factor that has the exterior of the PCI area panels at a further distance. No, Dell doesn't have its own form factor. That isn't the issue. It seems like DELL has a different case form factor that has the exterior of the PCI area panels at a further distance. I'm just trying to figure out what it's called.
