Different programs reading different CPU temps?

Hello there,

This is my first post, so if it looks like I'm doing something dumb, I probably am! Please correct me!

So I was gaming earlier and noticed that using MSI Afterburner, my CPU1 temp was ~100*C, and got scared. So I downloaded Speedfan, only to notice that it said my CPU temp was ~75*C. Can anybody help me figure out which one is the correct reading?

I also have a Corsair H100i liquid cooling system for the CPU, a 3570k (no overclock) so I'm guessing the 75*C temp is more accurate.

Either temp is too high for normal gaming.. You might want to re-apply the thermal paste on your CPU cooler.

You should be monitoring Core temperatures only, which are read directly from the processor, and are factory calibrated by Intel.

CPU temperature is read through BIOS, which is calibrated to look-up tables in BIOS, and is often wrong by up to 30C.

There are other differences between Core temperature and CPU temperature, which are not interchangeable terms or values.

Please give it a read.

Also, use only Real Temp for monitoring Core temperatures, as it was designed specifically for Intel processors.
