Different sticks, Whats best memory?

In a Dell Inspiron 530 it came with 1GBx2 DDR2 pc-5300 R2x8

i have some other ram that is 1gbx2 DDR2 pc-6600 R1x8

what is fastest , best to use. and if you know, can you explain to me what the R1x8....ect is? or would it be even better to use them both?

The PC-6600 is faster. Using both will just slow it down to the speed of the slowest stick.
Really, you won't notice the difference between each other, so I'd say just use them both if your board supports it.

If you have two slots, then use the faster memory, if you have four, use both. You'd probably be happier with more ram than 'faster' ram.

If your MB support 4 slots you can use them all but make sure you use the slightly Slower Ram in the primary slots so the slightly faster ram down clocks as over clocking ram causes instability

As for speed you wont notice any difference, but in performance less HDD caching when running multiple programs with 4Gig over 2Gig you will.

As for the R1x8 and R2x8 its (usually displayed 2Rx8) simply the memory chips on the Stick 1 row of 8 memory modules indicating single sided or 2 sides of 8 being double sided (does vary per brand)

hah , wanna know whats funny. i put them in the other two slots and went to crucial, tested them, said they are running at 6400.
i didnt change slots, just put them in the open ones.
