Question difficult accessing Hard drives

my 3 yr old PC has SSD for c drive, 5TB for a separate drive , 16Gig Ram , Intel i7 -3770 CPU. Up until now i have been able to run 2 ex HD as well as the 5TB at the same time. the last few days the HD are freezing all the time. I changed to other HDs and the same thing happened. I am having trouble sometimes accessing the 5TB for a long wait.

i havent a clue what to check

Try disconnecting all drives, except the boot drive. Power it up and see if it freezes with just one drive.
