Digital Converter Box Query... Whats nee?

Have a 10 year old digital converter box. Is there anything to be gained from a new one?. What features might be found? Guidance sought.

most of the newer tv shows are in hd and soon to be in 4k in the next year or too. you need new boxes to decode the digital signal and output it in hd or 4k. but in 10 years now there the new google tv sticks and ruka players that get you your local tv and movies. myself i have just an internet connection now no tv and watch everything from the net to my tv. with newer tv that are smart tv and windows 10. you can cast what on your pc to a smart tv now.
