Digital Video Cameras

Right I may be an electronics engineer but I would like some tips on the best digital video cameras. Like in the middle - high price range. It is for my parents and they ask me to research things like this since I know the field better and understand the feature....

Can anyone point me to any decent reviews or anything, or even name some cameras so I could go and look?
