Hi guys, I got a long one for ya.

This all started with a thermal throttling ryzen 9 3900xt. One day i noticed a drop in fps while gaming, checked temps and saw I was over the thermal threshold. I ordered some arctic mx4 and waited for it to arrive. The day it came I took apart my cpu cooler and repasted the cpu. Then the pc wouldn’t boot and read with all 32gb of ram (4x8) in windows. Only 16gb, so I decided to try and reset CMOS. The problem was the CMOS battery was under my 2080ti, which had some Rajintek universal cooler so no backplate or nothing covering pcb, I took the gpu out and reset the CMOS. After, there was about 3 days of me trying to get it to boot, I couldn’t figure it out so I decided to just buy "a new to me" motherboard off of Facebook. However it was not my motherboard causing the issue. and that’s when I figured it out it was my gpu. I fried it somehow. So I took all the components and put them back into the old motherboard and threw in a 2070 super. It still wouldn’t boot. It was throwing mem lights on the mobo. I quickly figured out that ram slots A1 and A2 are not working anymore. So I put all the components back in the new to me motherboard, still A1 and A2 are not working. There are NO bent pins and I cleaned up any excess thermal paste on the cpu. I updated bios on both motherboards, I’ve tried single sticks in slots A1 and A2 I’ve tried dual channel with B1 and B2 slots, I’ve changed the CMOS batteries, I’ve reset cmos 100 times, Tried a new PSU(idk why). If there is any sticks of ram in those A Dimms even if B1 and B2 were working right before you turned it off, it will not boot whatsoever. Just a Yellow MEM Led and spinning fans. I’m thinking of taking it down to a local computer shop and swapping in a test cpu just to see if the dimm slots work. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

You should ditch the two ram kit route and stick with one kit.

What BIOS version are you on for your motherboard?

You forgot to mention the make and model of the PSU. Add the age of the unit.

This would be a tell tale sign that the memory controller on the processor responsible for Channel A has conked out. Try and drop in another processor onto the socket and fire up the system.

I Ment to buy the same kit of ram to upgrade to 32 but I was a little too incompetent to compare the heatsinks side by side before purchase, the vulcan z is almost exactly the same looking just not as tall.

Version 3205 for the bios

Rosewill CAPSTONE 850M 850W

And would that have been something of my doing? The memory controller

Heat sinks or even part number don't tel whole story, it's inside what counts. When you buy a memory kit that means all are actually identical and tested to work together otherwise it's lottery.
