diplom.org & njudge.org DOWN

Dear all,

I am now in the process of moving devel.diplom.org server over to new
system. Its IP has already changed to the new machine, and I am
maintaining it down until I get it working.

Hopefully that will be before the weekend ends, but it might
conceivably drag into Monday or so. In any case, I shall try to be as
brief as possible.

Note that this will affect all email and web services provided in the
diplom.org domain, as well as the njudge.org domain which is also
hosted there.

My personal thanks goes to David Kovar who has kept it running for so
long, and I only hope to be able to be as reliable!

Thank YOU, Millis, and thanks to David Kovar. It will be sad
after over 10 years to think of diplom.org not being on that
same machine (well, almost the same machine).

Good luck getting it back up and working soon!

I want to add my voice to the thousands who are indebted to David Kovar for
all he has done, and to Millis Miller for all he is doing for maintaining
the syatem that hosts the diplom.org domain.

The USDP DPjudge will remain up while diplom.org is being moved -- you can
access USDP at http:://www.floc.net/dpjudge and e-mail it at
dpjudge@floc.net (thanks to yet another system provider that we are all
thankful to have -- Alain Tesio).

Stab you soon,
Manus

Man, I am suffering major withdrawl! Anyway here's a useful trick:

step 1/ find a link to a nice site on dippouch (EG on this newsgroup),
say
http://devel.diplom.org/DipPouch/Zine/W1995A/Szykman/NoPress.html

step 2/ put the entire URL into Google [search] and then look at
Google's *cache* version of the site.

It is useful for other purposes as well, such as a backup of you own
webpage.

Trust me,
Jono

Yes, this is a VERY useful technique that I've been using as well.
When you see Google's listing in the bottom line there is a "cached"
link, and you click on that instead of the main link.

Thanks, Jono! And we need to be patient with Millis, the work that
he is doing to make this happen (unpaid!) is immense and we need
to give him time to get it done right.

OK, I have got much of the diplom.org system working now.

Webpages and email seem to be fine. There is a problem with the
openings list, which is not working and njudge.org has some failures
for viewcvs and bugzilla bug reporting, but otherwise it should be all
there now.

I have had to alter passwords for all accounts that I transferred
over: if I haven't told you what your new on is, please ask me and I
will do so.

If you find any problems, please let me know to my usual email.

BR,
Millis

For me, the search page is still not working. A search of the site gives
an "internal server error" (and the search button looks like a blank
whole) and a search of all diplomacy sites yields an error alert saying
"onesite.org could not be found".

So is there any word on when we can expect USTR to come up again?

I've asked Millis about this, but some of the problems here are caused
by the fact that the new structure is built off of www.diplom.org
or diplom.org, and I'm not sure devel.diplom.org works any more.
See ifyou are specific about that if it helps (as a result some
pages are not presently properly connected.

I wasn't using the devel hierarchy. The search page I was at was
http://www.diplom.org/search/DPsearch.html. Perhaps the search itself is
configured to use the devel hierarchy in some way, but I have neither
knowledge of nor control over that.

I see yes, the search isn't working, I will try to fix that.

The devel.diplom.org alias is no longer being supported as a way to
get to the Pouch, but is a direct link to the server itself. Hopefully
the various bits on the site that link to that will be corrected, and
others should also only link to wwww.diplom.org

THe server hardwre change requires a recompile of the USTR: David
Norman was looking at that since I got the server going, around last
Thursday 14th.
