Hi,

just to say that the Pouch has found a new editor, Corey Mason.
Hopefully this means that some issues will be still made this year.

If you have any articles, ideas, posts etc. to submit, please do so to
the normal Pouch email address, so that he can have some material to
work with.

Many thanks,
Millis Miller
DP Council Member.

What about Material previously submitted? Will I need to re-submit?

It would be better to resubmit: the previous editor just disappeared AFAIK.

And that "normal Pouch email address" is, for those who need to know...

Hmm, this puts me in an awkward spot.

I submitted an article to the Pouch . . . and got ignored.

So I submitted the same article to Diplomacy World . . . and got ignored.
Which is strange since Jim-Bob specifically posted here and asked for
submissions. Possibly someone is on vacation or didn't plan to check the
address until closer to the Sept. 1 deadline.

So what should I do now? Any advice Jim-Bob?

Then I guess one of Cory's first tasks should be to update the "About
the Zine"
section: http://www.diplom.org/DipPouch/Zine/About.html

As I've said consistently, I hope the Pouch AND Diplomacy

It is actually:

dippouch - at - diplom.org

It goes to me and I then forward it to the editor.

Actually no: I created that as an alias when we had nominally two
editors, but it got deleted a while back, and I've not seen a reason
to recreate it.

If you submitted to the email dippouch - AT - diplom.org, I should
have still a copy of it and would have forwarded it to the then editor
(who didn't act on emails since many months ago).

I don't normally acknowledge emails that I forward on, but I will do
so in future.

If you wish in any case to resubmit, I shall forward on no problem.

Has there been any discussion about the "purpose" of the Dip Pouch versus
that of Diplomacy World. If they both overlap in purpose and scope, there's
going to be competition in submissions and it might be hard to get them both
rolling at the same time... not that competition is necessarily a bad thing,
just something worth thinking about...

Yes, of course that discussion has taken place on numerous levels
and at numerous times.

Diplomacy World comes out of the Postal hobby, and indeed is now
over 30 years old. And it still is produced in a "paper" format
as well. You can subscribe to it postally, as many do. WHile
the DIplomatic Pouch is purely a web szine, and comes out of the
judge based Dip hobby. This is the most fundamental difference
between them, and will always be the most important difference
between them.

THere are other more subtle differences as well that have evolved,
and probably can change depending on who is doing the editing....
some of them are:

1) Diplomacy World has tended to run "Showcase" games (as Unicorn
that you are playing in right now is supposed to be...) whereas,
the Pouch has never run games.

2) FTF Diplomacy has tended to be covered more extensively in
Diplomacy World, though this varies. We're preparing a number
of special features on July's World DipCon for Diplomacy World,
it wouldn't shock me if Dip Pouch had little or nothing on that.

3) Dip Pouch has been more aggressively focused on "Newbie articles"
and advicefor the beginner, in the last Diplomacy World Edi Birsan
had an article on teaching Dip to newbies, but it was FOCUSED
on very experienced players and how they can get the game across
quickly to a new player. Many Pouch articles are designed for that
new player to read directly.

4) Dip Pouch historically has not had as much "related, but non
game direct" content as Diplomacy World, and Diplomacy World
has tried harder to be explicitly international (e.g. I've
interviewed people from Finland to New Zealand in my interview
feature), though it has often failed at that.

5) Most people hear about the Pouch here in r.g.d while most
people hear about Diplomacy WOrld through the postal subbers,
or through the 500 or so person E-Mail subscriber list.

Generally, most authors find it VERY easy to choose which outlet
is more appropriate for their intended audience, except when
one or both outlets are in hiatus. Diplomacy World JUST got
really rolling again this year, just as the Pouch was pretty
much absent.

I think this discussion and competition helps, but I'm an economist
so you might think that idea is congenital.

OK, "ignored" was probably an inflammatory choice of words, for which I
apologize. It is frustrating to send something off that you've worked on for
a while and then get no response for a few weeks.

Millis,

It looks like my article is on board for the next Dip World, so at this
point I think I should just leave it there. The Pouch would probably be a
better place for it, since it is more judge-oriented (see Jim-Bob's post in
this thread) and is something of a continuation of my previous Pouch article
on Italian solos. But by submitting it to DW I feel like I have made a
commitment there.

Thanks for all your volunteer work on behalf of the hobby!

What's the deadlines for Diplomacy World, Jim-Bob? Regular cycle like

Quite right, I had forgotten, probably because the memory of ghods
(the game I played with Danny) was so painful.... ;-) The ghods
game of course eventually evolved into the series of games that is
NOW the DW Demo Game series.
