Do you have video card installation CD, it may have DirectX 8.1 included in it. I installed my DX 8.1b from my Catalyst Radeon 9500Pro CD.
According to <b><A HREF="http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=7f54ebd3-00d1-47bc-81db-3157fba4c3a7&displaylang=en" target="_new"><font color=green>Microsoft</A></b></font color=green>, WinXP already has DX 8.1 installed. It has <b><A HREF="http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=a2f63641-f038-43d1-94de-47a8306e4e1d&displaylang=en" target="_new"><font color=red>DX8.1b</A></b></font color=red> available if you want to update it.

 Good or Bad have no meaning at all, depends on what your point of view is.<P ID="edit"><FONT SIZE=-1><EM>Edited by khha4113 on 03/24/03 08:36 PM.</EM></FONT></P>

Any game that requires Directx 8.1 to run will usually have it on the installation CD. 8.1 comes installed with XP so unless you somehow screw it up it's already installed. I do remember being able to download it for Win98 which was useful when a program installation messed it up.
