Direct X Screen poblems

I'm sorry to trouble you all but I have a problem with direct x and lack the
knowledge to sort it.

When i play certain games (not all) and it is full screen, the games "lifts"
and i have a large black band at the bottom of my screen. If there is a full
screen option i can make it windowed and have no problems but i have to take
back many games because of this. i have tried re-installing direct x and
have updated everything on windows update and direct x.

It is a brand new flat screen computer with Windows XP so i cant think it
can be drivers.

Any suggestions? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

what kind of video card do u use is it the on baord chip type or a
insert card if its on baord type might try lookin into the insert card
like nvidia 5200 agp 128 or the radeon 9800 or somthing at that if not
could be the moniter not sizeing up right or try this right click
screen then go to properties then go to settings and see if its 800 by
600 screen size or1024by 768 changing this can factor in ya games too
but might be the cards or on baord chip for the video.
