Hello,

so I would like to do, does windows 7 home premium come with a direct x version and if so which one is it? I it is old and I want to get the latest one, which one does windows 7 support and where do I download it?

Solution
win 7 supports up to directx 11.1 and it can be installed a number of ways https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/179113

this article walks you through the various methods. the easiest is through windows update. it should show up in the list of updates if there is a version newer than you have. steam will also install other versions as it needs as well. each version is separate from the others so a game written for v. 9 needs v 9 installed as well and so on. steam will grab what it needs as it needs so there is no reason to try and install them all right now.

Windows 7 runs DirectX up to version 11, which is what it typically has automatically when Windows 7 is installed. Also, games and other software tend to come with the version of DirectX that they need, so there is almost never a need for you to download DirectX manually.
