Perhaps Intel "Larrabee" is a response to Windows 7, like you said?
I will very much like to see even crappy integrated graphics able to run DX11 on Windows 7.
Remember the Amiga? (some do), the minimum specs where so high, software developers can assume EVERY Amiga had high-end graphics (and multi-tasking) for the time and able to produce some awesome stuff. I will very much like to see the same thing happen again!
I will hate to be in a world where the minimum specs are so low, those PCs can't even run Vista Aero. It will be like MeIII, MeIV, etc. like you said. DOS and CGA graphics forever.

No I don't think that is what i read. Thanks anyway :)

So long as the chips [cpus, RAM, gpus etc.] are silicon with electricity based computations, you will never get true complex ray-tracing in real time on a large scale [in a game world like oblivion.] You guys need to wait for the CPUs RAM and GPUs to work with light waves. Once that technology is available to the public, video games will be indestinguishable from reality. [other than the fact that they are played on a 2D screen lol]

I may be an old thread, but its content is timeless. This issue will still be one for years to come.

- note, it may be 'timeless content', but keep the bumps and post to things worthy of bringing it back, not just because you came here via a search engine and decide to add 2C two years later.
Otherwise it will be locked, because things have changed since the original posts so commenting on them doesn't have the same weight. :pfff: - TGGA.

no, leave this thread here... interesting read, especially for those of us who havent been here since 2006 😀

besides, this is going to become a hot topic. especially when DX 11 cards are released for windows 7 ^.^

anyone wanna bet that the next crysis will be DX 11 based?

When you talk about a card, and what to expect from it you start a thread. Once the card is out you start a new one with the reviews...do u generally see any1 posting it back int he original thread? No because they want more people to be interested.

The only person that found it interesting was you apperently😛 cuz no1 touched it for a year😛

It would be a much better idea if some started more of an official update thread, where the person could add to it as news comes along, other than random posts.

Making it a sticking:)

I think this is likely, since I also think it will be a LONG LONG time until DX12 is released (and working well). I don't think DX12 will come until 2013 while Crysis-2 will arrive about mid 2012. From what early rumors I read, DX12 will be vastly different from all previous DX versions.

I still don't know of ANY game yet that really uses the capability of DX10. Even Crysis/Farcry2 can look just as good in DX9 mode while running more smoothly.

Just kill DX10 while releasing DX11. I just hope the new API will be a whole lot better and show real progress over DX9. At least progress terms of physics, ease of creating content, floating point offloading from the CPU, etc.. Looking better always helps :)

I am already using DirectX 11 in Windows 7.
Its quite nice. I am playing Far Cry 2 with the following settings and Rig:

Intel Core 2 Quad 4CPU @ 2.4 ~ 2.6 (Q6600) *10% overclock
Asus P5N-D 750i SLI 1333 FSB support MoBo
6GB DDR2 RAM 800
NVidia Geforce 8800GT x512 MB VRAM in SLI [Dual] *not overclocked
WD Internal 500GB SATA HD.
Stupid PnP generic flat panel moniter [lol]

I have all settings in Far Cry 2 at VERY HIGH [and Shaders / Textures @ Ultra High], and the screen resolution is max for my montier 1280x1040 I think, and I get approx 34 FPS when using Vista and DirectX 10, but I get approx 40 FPS when I am using Windows 7 Ultimate which is stock with DirectX 11 even though Far Cry 2 does not use DirectX 11 Technology [In fact, I know of only one project that is using DirectX 11, but I can't talk about that...] - My guess here is that Windows 7 being more streamlined frees up more resources for better play, where Vista is a hog.

Here is my DirectX Diag file:
I won't paste all of it becuase its redundant, and for other reasons too.

Remember originally the value of DX10 was for it's efficiencies, not major eye candy changes, doing more for less work was the biggest benefit, which is what we see in Assasin's Creed, Crysis and Stalker, where the framerate improves while doing more.

As for your question from before, the Vec4+1 arrangement refers to the math the units can do and what they are best geared for, only the 5th unit can really do functions math with the other 4 being ADD, MAD, MUL & DotProd units requiring a trip back through for more. These 4 units are better suited for vector physics type math on their own, it's when combined as the cluster that they are more functional as scalar units.

Anyways, I'll leave it up enewmen if this thread should be locked, but this is the end of my contributing participation in it other than to keep an eye on things.

It seems then, this thread really has reached the end of it's usefulness. It will be sadly missed by the contributors and all the readers that got something special.

In sure and certain hope of the resurrection to eternal life through our Lord Jesus Christ, we commend to Almighty God our brother "DirectX 11 Thread"; and we commit his body to the ground; earth to earth; ashes to ashes, dust to dust. The Lord bless him and keep him, the Lord make his face to shine upon him and be gracious unto him and give him peace. Amen.

Many might feel relief now that the thread is dead. Some things like DOS is better left dead. We can all move on to better things now.

if you want the game to beocme more real get the nvidia 3d vision pack, the smoke literally buzzes on the side of your face coming out of the screen in Left 4 Dead.

yea...why spend the money on another card, games, cpu, ram or anything else useful. When you can buy the 3D setup that apperently gives ppl head aches after 15 mins of gameplay.

Honestly 3D vision isn't worth it...when I see for the price of a video game...maybe but even then I'd rather spend my money on Star craft 2 or any other game...

3D gaming is an experience for now..but I doubt it will be successfully implemented in most cases.

And I read that it drops even a 280 GTX to it's knees by reducing its potential by 50%...don't quote me on that.

Please elaborate.

I noticed for example, when I copy a video file to a small media player, Windows 7 has the option to TRANSCODE! The transcoding actually uses the GPU to speed up the process and reduce the CPU load. So it seems the DirectCompute seems to actually work! - Even though I only had a DX10.1 card installed.

Anyone else find something cool about Windows7 and DX11 ?

Actually, there are other threads more appropriate for this topic, this thread has more to do with what DX11 might be rather than what DX11 really is.
