directx 12 need new motherboard?

so i was wondering if this motherboard msi b85m-e45 support directx 12 or it only support direct11

It only supports up to DirectX 11.

I don't believe the motherboard dictates what version of Direct X you can run.

and warhead is right, it's backwards compatible with hardware so you don't have to go out and buy the latest tech. as for software... i believe only windows 10 supports direct x 12.

DX is related only to Windows version and GPU.
If you have Win10 and a GPU, which supports DX12, you are good to go.

ah.one more thing...even if you have already GPU with DX12 support, by the time DX12 became mainstream, you will be already on your way looking for newer and better GPU.

that's incorrect. a lot of older graphics cards are supported. it is not related to the gpu. it's not like windows 10.

It is GPU depended or GPu driver dependent, yes there are older GPU on the DX12 support list.

i'm saying it's incorrect to put gpu in the same category as an os. the only os that supports direct x 12 is windows 10. if you want to say that, then you forgot to add motherboard in there. either way the comparison is not correct. they are totally not related. that's like getting your apples and oranges mixed up.

oh, one more thing op... if you want to fully utilize direct x 12, you need a direct x 12 motherboard also, with gpu and os. it will work on older hardware that doesn't have direct x 12, but on numerous sites that i've read, you can't fully utilize it without the hardware supporting direct x 12. it will still be compatible, just can't take full advantage of direct x 12. either way, the only os direct x 12 is compatible with is windows 10, software isn't as flexible.
