I've tried to install DirectX 8.0 on my computer running Windows 2000 Pro. When I go to install DirectX 8.0, that I downloaded off of Microsoft's site, I get the error message.
"Extracting File Failed. It is most likely do to low memory(low disk space for swapping file) or a corrupt Cabinet file." I have 128MBs of PC133RAM and I have Virtual Memory set to min190MB max256MB. My Max registrey is 35Mbs and a current size of 19MBs, and application response is on applications. I have no idea how to find and fix a corrupt Cabinet file. Any ideas??

Also will the Detonator beta 7.17-DirectX8.0 combo help stop the lock up I get when I use Detonator 6.31 or Beta 7.17 in games? I have a Hercules Geforce2 64MB GTS with the Hercules 5.32 w2k drivers currently.

It seem that the DX8 you downloaded was corrupted try to download again. As i have no problem with either DX7 + Det 6.31, DX8 + 6.31 or DX8 + 7.17. Quake 3, UT, AOK, MDKII, Diablo II, SC, DEUX are 100% stable.

Also have you got the MS Application Update patches , SP1 and MS VIA AGP patch if you are using VIA chipset
Tbird 1 Gig + A7V + Abit Siluro GTS 2 64 Meg.

That is definitely a corrupt download. You must have had some noise in the connection when you downloaded it.

where is the MS via agp patch? do you need that and the new VIA drivers? Which AGP drivers do you use from via if you do? I have Abit KA7 and 750 Athlon, Elsa Galdiac

Fragg at will!!!

Good question..where's that patch? Cut and paste the link to the post will ya?..:)

Motivation is half the battle to success..personal intiative completes the process..:)

goto www.reactorcritical.com and get the 11.01 drivers they work a hell of alot better than those hercules ones i have same card as you do. and am using those, goto www.via.com.tw and get the 4.29 drivers. dont sweat teh patch its built in to that driver set. up ur virtual memory to one gig min and max and will stop that outof memory error. then pull down direct x 8.0a and load it up

let me know if that stops your problems thats how i have it set up on my win2k machine
