Has anyone noticed any improvements by using dx8.1 over dx8?
any bench/system info would be appreciated. especially if you have a geforce3.

i'm running dx8 and want to know if it is worth downloading the newer version using my slow 56k modem.

I installed DirectX 8.1 under Win2k os. I could not tell any difference at all. I have a Gforce 3 TI 500. But no hangups.

I also didn't noticed any improvements with 8.1. I've benchmarked my sytem with DirectX 8 and 8.1 and the scores of 3DMark2001 are the same (both around 4650). I've a 1,4 GHz AMD Athlon, 512 MB DDR PC2100 RAM and a Geforce 2 MX card OC'ed (GPU from 175 to 220 and Mem from 166 to 205). I use Win98.
I wished I had a GeForce 3  .

No, I meant about the part that the NV25 is coming out soon. Any link for that?

Given nVidia's 6 monthly cycle, I think it's a given that we will see something in the way of nv25 by march-may.

And by july next year, we should see the first peepings of R300... just possibly with s decent driver set.

Yes, lhgpoobaa, that last DirectX 8.1 was a very buggy beta. I hope this final version is fixed and they remember to take that "time expired" warning out of it!!!

Yes there are a few improvements that will eventually make all other cards that do not support them seem outdated. Programable T&L and Pixel and texture shading as well as an anti aliasing feature.

Commanche 4 uses all 4 of these NEW features.
Must have a Geforce 3 to get them.
