Well, my sources (you guys :D ) tell me that DX11 is coming out late this year along with Windows 7. I've thought about it for a while and i had decided to wait and get a DX11 card. however, they will probably be expensive and not even utilized till 2012 when the new game consoles move to a new DirectX version. So, when the new cards come out will the prices drop enough for me to be able to get a 4890 for the price of current 4870s? what are some deals i can expect? i havent enough experience to remember what happened when dx10 came out so i'm looking to people who were around then.

well nows a good time but i dont have the funds atm. during the summer i'ma get a job and i'll top that off with a nice $100 dollars in the fall for my bday.

and yes i also think win7 and dx11 are very useless, seeing there both minor updates to vista and dx10.1

Don't worry about spath, he is just bitter about everything.

I'd imagine the old gen cards will be very cheep, but the low end dx 11 cards will probably be no more expensive (think 5850), and much easier to find.

Of course that will depend.. There is no telling what release prices of 5000 and 300 series will be... ati and nvidia could surprise us all with 500 dollar starting prices.... (doubt it though)

nobody will use!? are you kidding me; windows 7 is awesome compared to vista, and slightly better in some respects to XP, on top of that D3D11 has many features; if not graphically significant, such as the automatic aspect ratio correcting, which has been a problem for gamers for a long time

Ive heard all this before, this same tired argument was said with Vista and DX10.

Anyways, DX11 cards are set around Q4 2009/Q1 2010, personally I dont think its worth waiting if you need something right now. Just snag a 4890 or GTX 275. As far as the prices go, I wouldnt expect prices to drop when the DX11 cards hit as said prices will have already dropped by then as they get older.

Silver.. you can spend all day trying to change his mind and just annoy all of us, or we can drop it forever now.. in a couple years we can worry about I told you so's when games start using DX 11 exclusively. Spath is well within his rights to suspect the usefulness of a new MS os given their great luck with releasing XP and vista....

The topic of the thread is will dx 11 drop prices on dx 10.. and the answer is.. I don't have a time machine.. but everything gets cheaper as it gets older.. so yes? but probably not directly... if you need something now.. buy it now.. whatever it is there will be something better for less cash in 6 months or less.

Even though M$ is never one to impress im still optimistic of win7 so :kaola: spath...either way il have an os somehow weather or not win7 proves to be worth it...lets just hope it is considering M$ will probably start forcing it into every pre built pc on the market along with our low power netbooks...

Edit:i up ranked all of spaths post....no love for the cynical, guys?

And for an on topic addition no i wouldn't wait out dx10 at this point...

To be fair he isn't really knocking so far as skeptical.. Also, there really is no telling what dx11 will bring till we see it running on the new cards. I like windows 7.. but as of yet I don't know if I like it enough to buy it over vista.. Its pretty, and stable.. but so is vista on my rig.. TRIM is the only thing that really has me wishing for it to work great! I don't think we will see performance in games change between the two by much, as much as I hope it does bring everything possible.. I'm not sure.

well see, i dont know when i'll have the money. as it stands, i'm thinking a 4850 X2 card this fall, but if i do get a job, i'll prolly be getting it in the summer, still the same card maybe (i still might have to get a new case/psu).

1 thing i want to clear up

-would dx10 cards support dx11 on a software level. I remember running a DirectX9 game on a DX7 card...(Radeon 7500)

Whether a game would work on a DX10.1 card would be entirely up to teh game manufacturer. Just like today where you can run almost all games in XP with the DX10 features turned off, most will allow the dx11 features to be a toggle selection. Though given the changes in dx11 we may see dx11 only games sooner than dx10 only appeared (read never.. lol).

but i doubt they would leave out a DX10 option right.. seeing that now we still have dx9 games. I realize certain games that are based off graphics eye-candy only might but a mainstream game like Call of Duty would never do that correct?

A thread about forum members staring at a gpu price graph. I think some of you should go watch paint dry or something.
DX11 cards are not yet out, actually they are just rumours(nothing specific confirmed by the respective companies) and we have people discussing their imaginary effects on gpu prices?!

well, the future holds alot of uncertainity for some DX11 cards therefore some people here are actually better of watching paint awaiting these cards release...

but it doesnt matter how good the DX11 cards are. when they come out, no matter what happens DX10/10.1 card WILL be old technology. which always (most of the time) gets cheaper.

i think it has personally every thing to do with it. If you had a DX 11 and a DX 10 card with the same performance, which would u get? of course the dx 11 card. now how could they possibly try to sell them to you at the same price, no one would buy the old cards, therefore a price drop occurs. Basic economics. please, i don't want any other pessimistic comments about how it doesn't matter. make your own threads about how dx11 doesn't matter, i want to hear opinion on how much it will drop, not if it will

gamerk if you check the post name it says that DX11 will cause price drops on NON-DX11 cards, of course it will drop prices, they offering a new technology at the same price as old ppl will get new so e-tailers and re-tailers will lower prices to clean their store and fill it with new dx11.

U dont neeed to worry from my past experience prices will drop i can assure you
