So here's the situation. I have a ASUS A55M-E micro-atx mobo that supports directx11 and i am currently using directx11. However, I have a EVGA GTX 960 SSC 2GB that says it can run directx12. Can I use directx12 and if so how do I switch over to it?

Solution
DirectX version support depends on the GPU model & Windows version, nothing to do with the motherboard model as such.

Windows 8.1 or later is required for DirectX 12, it's already included in Windows 10, and is delivered via Windows Update on Windows 8.1.

There is no stand-alone update package for DirectX 12.0 available, it's delivered only through Windows Update.

Well i have Windows 7 right now and i don't remember how i got directx11 when i first got my pc. If i were to upgrade to windows 8 or 10, would directx12 automatically install?

"Well i have Windows 7 right now and i don't remember how i got directx11"

It's built in to Windows 7.

I thought I'd already explained that.

With Windows 8.1, DX12 is delivered through automatic updates.
With Windows 10, DX12 is built-in.

Oh, and don't mark a post as "Best solution" in future if you haven't finished posting on the thread.

Got it..
