Dirt 2 and Dirt 3 crashing

Hello everyone. I recently bought both dirt 2 and 3. Whenever I click on either of them, the game does not even load and the computer immediately freezes and I have to use the reset switch to turn it back on. The PC is custom built and the specs are below:

Intel core i5-3350P
GTX 660
8GB RAM
AVG Free is my anti virus

The game does not even show loading screen. Yesterday, dirt 2 loaded and worked fine but dirt 3 has not worked no matter how many times I uninstall it and reinstall it. Any recommendations?

Which version of windows are you using?

Have you updated Direct X and all drivers of your PC, specially sound and graphic drivers?

I am using windows 8.1 and my direct x is 11. All the graphics card drivers are updated. This also occurs with Grid 2 demo but not the first Grid. Sorry for late reply. I appreciate the help.

Have you tried to play Dirt 3 on windows 7 if not then try it. I also have many problems with software and games not working on windows 8.1

Its a known bug in Windows 8.1 which effects gamers.
Answer the following questions...
- Did you check Dirt 3 on Windows 7 or Windows 8?
- Have you updated your windows?
but before that try to change its compatibly option "right click > compatibility tab > run this program in compatible mode for windows XP service pack 3 or windows 7" check for both
if it doesn't work then do the following steps
- download and install "Openal" from https://ra5-downloads.phpnuke.org/en/c150466/openal-free-download-full-review#.Uv59lYVn1WU
- update Direct x through "dxwebsetup.exe" from http://www.microsoft.com/en-pk/download/details.aspx?id=35
- Download and install for 64bit windows "Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x64) " from http://www.microsoft.com/en-in/download/details.aspx?id=2092 |or| Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) for 32bit windows from http://www.microsoft.com/en-in/download/details.aspx?id=5582
- download RAPTURE 3D from http://www.blueripplesound.com/sites/default/files/downloads/p1qc/rapture3dgame_2.6.1_win.exe
- place Dirt 3 at desktop and right click and select "Run as an administrator" in compatibility tab.

Which one do I run in compatibility mode?

Sorry for the noobiness. I need to check. I had to install Rapture 2.5.1 as the link provided did not work. It said my email was not valid. I installed Open AL and the rest. I have not had the facility to try Dirt 3 out on a W7 machine. Also Dirt 2, Grid 2 demo and Burnout Paradise Ultimate Box do not work. However COD world at war, TF2, Battlefield 3, NFS Shift 2 Unleashed all run fine without any problems. Thanks

Update: I moved dirt 3_game to desktop and did everything you said. I get the error binkw32.dll is missing? It says I should reinstall the program to fix this. Any ideas?

Its "dirt3_game.exe" which you need to run in compatible mode, try it.
As I told you before, it is bug inside windows 8.1, some games doesn't work in some PCs
