I am looking at building my own system. I am neither a gamer nor a video editor. I've decided the Intel HD 4600 integrated graphics on a Haswell i5 will be more than capable for me.

The thing is, I would like to set up 3 monitors. This is possible with the new CPUs, BUT it must include at least 1 DisplayPort. So I'm taking that into consideration when choosing a mobo. However, I'm having trouble finding a good mobo in my price range that has a DisplayPort and meets all my other needs (mainly the need for lots of USBs, including 2+ 3.0s in front and back, 6+ total in back). In fact, I've now worked out that combining a cheapie vid card with mobo that meets all my needs except DisplayPort would actually be cheaper!

So, ideally, I'd like to get a cheapie vid card with a DisplayPort, disable the GPU, and have that DisplayPort feed into the Intel IGP instead.

Is that possible?

Bonus points if VRAM can be used too!

Haswell requires at least 1 DisplayPort. http://www.pcper.com/reviews/Processors/Haswell-Review-Intel-Core-i7-4770K-Performance-and-Architecture/Haswell-Graphics-
No and No. You either use the video card or the integrated graphics. The only system that lets you use both is an AMD with Crossfire x. In that scenario you can use the integrated crossfired with the vid card and the vid card supplies it's power and ports and vram together with the integrated.

The Intel processor is either or and not both.

Hrm.

In other words, I need a mobo with a DisplayPort.

That's what I figured...but it would make things so much easier. 🙁

According to numerous benchmmarks, I'd be taking a big hit on graphics with a low-end video card....
