OK so I have my computer set up as a server in my house. I have 4 monitors around the house and love it but i don't need them powered on all the time.

So my main display where I sit and work from are in one room.
Then my flat screen tv's (hdmi and mini display port connected) are in different rooms. I am using a different web browser in each room because programs remember their last position when turned on. It's the Icons that I want to remember their position. I use specific programs on each monitor and only when it is on. Is there a profile I can make that sets up the desk top when the monitors are turned on??

I have looked around the net and found a thread dating back to 2010 for the same thing. You would think windows would have done something about it by now but no. 5 years later I want the same solution.

any one please help. frustrated with having to walk back and forth to each room every time i turn on a monitor just to click a stupid icon.....

Yeah, sounds like a second computer would benefit you greatly. An HTPC (Home Theater Personal Computer) is a common thing to build nowadays. It sounds like you could use one of those. Yes, it would cost money. But for your situation, its exactly what you're looking for.

You could setup your main PC to share its files using HomeGroup, a common Windows feature. Then use the HTPC and give it the password to access the main PC over the LAN or WiFi of your home. Then the HTPC could play its own videos, and use its own interface, (kb+mouse).

Until then, I don't think there is an easy solution for what you want, using a single PC. Multi-user systems, multi-screens, tend to need multi-PCs. :)
If each monitor is in a different room... why not have them duplicate each other? Have them all show the same screen. No icon placements, no multi-browser mess, no hassle. (Just requires similar resolutions on all screens. Or same Aspect ratios to scale nicely.)

well that would be a solution but i have one 40"1080p tv one 42"1080i a 28"1120 and a 50"display
the other thing is that I am running win media player on one for videos and xbmc and vlc each set to output video and sound on specific displays/monitors so that my wife can watch what she wants in her room i can watch what I want in my the living room etc. If i could setup each room as its own interface with its mouse keyboard and independent desktops I would but windows doesn't do this or If I had multiple computers I would set up a media server in my home but I don't. SO, I'm being cheap until I can afford a new computer
