Good Morning Everyone! I am glad to be a member of this community. I own a Gateway 838GM computer and I have a question.

A few days ago I have been having problems with an extremely loud and annoying CPU fan. I tried everything from cleaning to adjusting the Power Options in Windows 7 but nothing worked. This fan was so loud that I was afraid my neighbors would complain to the landlord so I tried one last thing: I disabled the noisy fan. The computer is now whisper quiet but I wonder if I'm headed for more trouble.

I have been working on this computer for over 10 hours now and I had no problems. But I am worried and I wanted to ask an expert for feedback on what surprises are in store for me. I am a freelancer and I really depend on my computer. I am looking for computers on Ebay but it will take about a week or so before it arrives.

Does anyone have any information that may be helpful?

Regards :)

you probably need that fan - the computer mfgr put it in there for a reason - if they could have saved the cost of a fan, they would have

you can download HWMonitor, and watch your temps (CPU & GPU) but without knowing where in the world you are, summer temps will mean higher ambient temps and that's when you'll really see the need. If you're living north of the Artic Circle, then summer temps won't be an issue

Computer fans are all generic in terms of mounting, you just need to measure the fan, whether 90mm, 120mm etc, and buy a replacement. Noctua fans are famously quiet but pricey ($20-$25 on amazon)

hope that helps

Thanks for that info. :) I decided to use the computer anyway just as it is until my new one arrives. I don't want to spend any more money on this computer since the noisy fan isn't really the only problem I have with it. The noisy fan is the last straw.
