So basically I was wondering why my ryzen 5 2600 @3.5ghz was only running at 2.78 (capped) and it wouldnt go higher and I think that slow mode is the problem after all. How can i disable it? ( motherboard: MSI B350M gaming pro)

Specs:
MSI B350M GAMING PRO
GTX GIGABYTE 1660 OC
AMD RYZEN 5 2600
CORSAIR VENGEANCE 16GB 3200-MHZ
EVGA 500W BRONZE
WINDOWS 10 PRO 64-BIT

Update your post to include full system hardware specs and OS information.

Double check the motherboard's User Guide/Manual to verify the supported hardware and corresponding hardware configuration settings.

Also check the motherboard's manufacturer's website for any updates.

I provided that link (for another motherboard) more as a reference to check BIOS.

Are you sure that you are looking at the correct switch?

Is the switch a "three" way "C", middle, "A"?

So if there is indeed a switch then reference the motherboard's User Manual.

Do not change anything until there is some certainty about the motherboard and switch.

Motherboard: MSI B350M gaming pro - correct? Revision number?

Should be printed somewhere on the motherboard: i.e., Revision , Version...

Anyway, here is a link that may be relevant with respect to MSI:

View: https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/52l1sk/if_you_have_a_msi_gaming_7_motherboards_and_your/

The first couple of posts seem to address the situation you are in (or may be in).

However, do click the blue line to view all of the 47 other posts and comments.

Be aware that the thread is quite dated and expansive.

If the Slow Mode switch is indeed just "two way" then flipping the switch (as suggested) may uncap the speed.

Again, there may be reasons not to do that, Especially without some confirming documentation.

And do remember to check BIOS - anything there imposing a speed cap?

The motherboard's User Manual may have some description of the available BIOS functions and features.

I am not able to provide a direct path to the applicable setting - most likely you will need to browse about and explore BIOS to find it.

And then verify your finding before changing anything. Details matter.

Because the issue involves overclocking I am going move this thread to overclocking.

Someone there may recognize your motherboard and BIOS and provide a direct "how to" post.

I do not know either way and the hope is that someone who follows "Overclocking" will post some ideas or suggestions:

Confirm: your motherboard does have the physical switch - correct?

Used for LN2 cooling solutions....

https://www.manualslib.com/manual/1050767/Msi-970.html?page=40

Any related LED's?

There may also be a jumper involved:

https://www.manualslib.com/manual/1353640/Msi-X99s-Xpower-Gaming-Titanium.html?page=43

(Not your motherboard but it is MSI.)

Lastly some of the other links I have looked at mention LN2 cooling: are you or are you not using that?

Changing the switch may make the system go faster but "thinking" it is being suitably cooled. Which it is not.

Another old link discussing the matter:

Cooling with liquid nitrogen.

FYI:

https://tech1985.com/computer-cooling-with-liquid-nitrogen/

Sp if your system is running at some level where LN2 cooling is needed but is not actually being used then the CPU will overheat very quickly.

And that is very likely to end badly.

Very much doubt that you have LN2 cooling. So the real matter is to determine why there is a 2.78 cap.

Does the motherboard have a slow mode switch and maybe a jumper? Any LED's ?

You need to provide more information if anyone is going to be able to help or otherwise make suggestions.

I am very much out of ideas and suggestions for the time being.

So basically I found the issue and I feel so dumb right now.. All I had to do is switch my power plan to Balanced instead of high performance. Anyway thank you for your time and sorry about all this .
