Disabling the device auto install?

so I have the DLINK DWA-556 wireless PCIe adapter. And I want to install it using atheros drivers. However, when I uninstall then reboot, it keeps installing it by itself. I have already tried to disable the thing by going to Devices and Printers, then right clicking the device, and disabling the auto install. It does not work. Help please??????? Running on Windows 7 home premium x64.

Follow Nancy Regan's advice and when Windows asks if it's OK to install new drivers for hardware it found .....

Nothing says you can't update the drivers that Win7 auto-installs. Just locate the device in Device Manager, right click, Update Driver...

I cannot do that because if I try doing that and updating through the thing where you choose the file, it automatically says I have the latest device.
