Disabling Windows update, which way?

What is the best option for disabling Windows update for the Home version? It looks to be either option 4 or 5 here at tenforums: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/8013-windows-update-automatic-updates-enable-disable-windows-10-a.html#option3

if I disable through services I'm not going to be notified of updates and will need to re-enable each time to check for updates is that right?

To stop automatic updating. I'm ok with stopping auto updates but not so much with having to re-enable the service everyday to check if there are any new updates...

I've done this, but I thought this was just for disabling hardware driver updates and not normal windows updates or am I wrong?

No, you right, I hadn't seen your other thread when I answered this. I just thought this was why you wanted to stop them.

I don't know how well you will go stopping Windows Updates on the Home version as part of reason it was a free upgrade is you don't have as much say in when you get the updates

It's the same on a clean install as well, it's just the way they've headed with it... Option 4 and 5 will disable updates but I'm not sure if those options still allow you to be notified of new updates or whether you would have to disable/enable each time to check instead...

if you use option 4 you will receive a notification when there is a update ready to download.

Best way is the simplest. Back up your system! Use a snapshot tool like Comodo Time Machine or Rollback Rx to take daily snapshots and if the update botches the system, simply revert the system back.

I've been doing it this way on my Win 10 Home Ed and it works perfectly. It lets me install updates, and back out of the destructive ones.

Is anyone using any of the disabling methods described at tenforums? I don't think disabling the service is very good solution as it still doesn't allow you manually choose what updates and when to install them, it just start's auto updating again.
