Well, I picked up the 980ti and ran it on ultra, no hairworks at 3840x2160 and i've gotten an average of 35fps with nothing happening much on screen. In the forest or a trail with just brush and trees, maybe a few people 35fps is the average. I've confirmed this with many other videos on youtube sporting the same fps in their videos.

How is it this card costs $650+ when my 2 year old R9 290x by itself, just one of them runs the same settings at 30fps. In crossfire, I average about 45-48fps and 50+ if there isn't much happening and with a gentle overclock.

In Novigrad with a ton of people walking around and Geralt sprinting

GTX 980Ti

29-30fps+

Single R9 290x crossfire disabled:

24fps with dips to 17, flux between 17 and 24 ehhh....

Crossfire R9 290x:

41fps, with flux between 29 to 41.

The 290x's have massive spikes in fps loss, but this is in very high traffic areas and doesn't happen out in the wild. This only happens in novigrad with the number of characters set to max. So, why the hell is the 980TI priced so high if it performs a few fps better than the very old 290x? Jeez, this card is going right back where it came from first thing in the morning. Anyone else have numbers like this with their 980ti and witcher 3 using these settings? Ugh.

That sounds odd. Did you remove the old video card drivers (without errors) before you installed the Nvidia driver? I'm assuming you have an adequate power supply since youve powered 290xs in xfire.

Did you remove and reinstall the video card to ensure its properly seated?

Power cables seated properly into the video card?

I would think maybe there's an issue on the software side with the drivers installation. I say this from my own experiences being an avid amd owner of the 295x and previously 3x 6950s.

You probably have a setting turned up that wasn't before. The benchmarks show pretty large gains with the 980ti over a 290x, but you can't play at Ultra. you'll need to turn down settings. As to why? Well, 1080p is the target resolution for all games. Your resolution is 4 times that. Until 4K is the target resolution, you'll have to turn down settings, which will result in the IQ that would happen if the dev's did target 4K. And don't forget that performance will vary from game to game.

I ran the 290x benches first and totally removed them before installing the 980ti. I've a 950w psu, brand new from newegg. Ran the 290x's first, then the 980ti. All cables are properly setup.

These benchmarks are in line with other youtubers and their live demos. 35fps is the average fps for the 980TI running witcher 3 in 4k at 3840x :[

Like I said, you will have to lower some settings. 4K is not the target resolution, so that means dev's offer higher end settings for those with lower resolutions.

If you haven't noticed, there isn't a lot of difference between high and ultra these days, yet there is a fairly large improvement with 4K.

What are your AA settings and all that? At 4k you don't need much of that if any, I know I had everything else ultra and even with hairworks on for everything. I've been testing mine at 4k and I've done so much between games I forget some of what I got but I'm pretty sure mine wasn't that low but I'll go check it out again for you now so you can compare. I think with hairworks on everything and at ultra i was in the 30-40 range but I'll go look.

EDIT: Yeah in the 30's with hairowks on and everything ultra including aa, sometimes to 40-42. Mid to high 40 ish with hairworks off during combat, sometimes dips down to 40 but it still feels smooth.
