Disc against digital download

I have a decent laptop but it doesn't have a good processor and Ive been spending a bit of money on steam but some games just can't run. I was wondering if a disc would need less "processing power" than a game downloaded off steam?

The game's ability to run well is dependent on the hardware of the computer, not the media it is run from.
