I tried a internal LG DVD drive in my desktop pc the other day and it would not open and when i put a disc in it spins up but it has a high pitch errrrrrrrr as it does, but when i put it in to a different computer it works fine i am really confused of why. I wanna kno if it could be drivers cause i did not install drivers for it and i used the same sata power coming out of my power supply for the disc drive that was already being used for my SSD i wonder if that is the problem if its that i have a SSD and a discdrive on the same sata power cable also i had to use a molex to sata adapter because all my sata power cables were used for my SSD and HDD and other disc drive i am running windows 10
Power supply is capable of running two disc drives and have a Asus mother board

Solution
No problem. Not sure what to suggest at this time.

Had an afterthought though. Reinstall the drive inside your desktop pc as before when it failed.

Then use "WIN" + "I" > Update & Security > Troubleshoot

Select the various troubleshooting options and perhaps Windows 10 will find and fix something.

Just be methodical with respect to the troubleshooters and do not immediately react to any given problem.

Keep notes and if nothing found and/or fixed, vary the installation (e.g., change power connection, data cable etc.) one thing at a time and again run the troubleshooters.

Hopefully some meaningful error code, warning, or pop-up will result.

In the meantime perhaps someone else will spot something that I have overlooked and...
i already have a disc drive in my computer so i tried nightmare on elm street as test because for a little bit the drive was working fine and it said it was blank but my other disc drive said it was, well, nightmare on elm street BTW the disc drive is a LG super multi DVD Re-writer
Model gh20ns15, did it say it was a blank disc cause it was a rewriter??? but after i tried Shrek game "played it when i was little"
and it made the disk drive do the errrrrr thing again so is it the type of disc???

Do I understand correctly - there are two internal disc drives?

Try first one drive and then the other drive using the same connections.

Determine if each disc drive works independently by itself. Then try both together again.

Might be a power issue if the combined load is too much.

ive already had one in my computer for a long time now, works fine im trying to put another one in so i have two so imma try what u just said.
BTW what does rewriter mean, is it like Rewritable. does that mean it can burn DVD's. like rewritable, or like just any dvd like a movie it can just rewrite it to be blank cause idk

CDs and DVD media can be Write Only or Read/Write. However, you also need the applicable physical drive, drivers, and application software.

Write only is just that. Once written cannot be erased or overwritten - no reuse.

Read/Write media can be erased. However, you can sometimes close the media to prevent further writing. Often a configurable option when you are burning data to the media.

For more information in general here is a helpful link:

For even more detail:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optical_disc_drive

Modern drives and software prevent copying media if the software detects any copyright violations or believes that there is a copyright violation.

Generally anyone making (burning) their own CDs and DVDs not so long ago could expect to waste a number of discs during the burning process. Not much of a problem anymore if at least some level of care is taken.

well it worked fine with just that disc drive but my power supply is very capable of handling two disc drives one HDD and one SSD so idk
but it could be im using a molex to sata power adapter (when i was using it with the other disc drive plugged in) that came with this thing that lets u plug drives in to ur comptuer with a usb port. this thing https://www.amazon.com/AGPtek-Drive-Adapter-Converter-External/dp/B00BIE996S/ref=sr_1_4?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1518033207&sr=1-4&keywords=sata+to+usb
so maybe adapter too weak im not a noob with computers but i have never installed a disc drive before

yeah thats what i thought, thanks

should i put it along side the other disc drive on the same power cable coming out of the power supply becasue right now it is along side the SSD with the same cable i would still need to use a molex to Sata adapter becasue there is only on sata on each cable

Received "Page not found" errors on the Amazon link.

Perhaps the adapter is faulty. Try swapping the connections around and/or using different cables.

All you need to do is to demonstrate that the drive works - which you have done via another computer.

So the problem narrows down to drivers and connections. Double check the driver and, as suggested, methodically swap cables.

Another thought: If possible try the LG drive outside of the computer - just for testing purposes. May not be working inside because of a tight fit or some jamming taking place. Ensure that the door is free to open and that nothing else is interfering with the drive's mechanics.

Solution
Dirt in the connection ports perhaps -prevents proper electrical contact. Power down and carefully blow out the dirt/dust. Inspect for damage on both the cable and port.

Could also be an intermittent connection due to a broken wire in the cable - touches and works. Separates and fails....

Try another known working wire. Hopefully wire and not port.
