Disc not recognised by drive -BSoD maybe?

Hi,
I have a Samsung laptop np350v5c, with an Optical drive. It now fails to recognise a Disc 'Disc not in drive', and I have tried a few (CD's, DVD's, etc.)without success (error messages on VLC)
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drive, which is in my computer settings without any issue messages, but it still can't read my disc (no loud whirling noises, but there's some spinning when the laptop starts.
I did get a 'blue screen of death' around the time it failed also, and it now only shuts down when I select shut down and then have to hold the power button on for a while.

I'm not PC-lit really, but any help or guidance would be great!

Maybe a clean up of the Laser with a cleaning disk. They aren't very expensive.

Did some home-cleaning with water and a cotton bud and reinstalled yet again...
...and it works!
