Disciplines losing focus

With this newest expansion, KMW, a player in my playgroup proclaimed
that the disciplines are losing their focus. At first I didn't really
agree, but looking at some of the cards I notice the following:

Obfsucate gets bleed reduction and anti-vote. Serpentis gets an untap
and yet more bleed mods. Yet more perma-bleed for auspex. New:
Perma-bleed for presence. Punchyness for nec. Untapping and intercept
for protean. Range setting for quietus...

Any bets on how many more expansions we've got before every discipline
does everything? :) Or are we already too far down that path as it is?
....

In general I do think that each Discipline will have access to a
greater number of options as time goes on. I suppose that would be
"less" focus but not an unacceptable amount of focus as far as I'm
concerned. For me, it's not a problem as long as each Discipline
remains focussed enough to still maintain its own unique identity. For
example, A bleed reduction card for Obfuscate doesn't come close to
muddying Obfuscate's defining characteristic...the fact that we all
still know what that is makes it clear that Obfuscate is widely
associated with *stealth*. When you can ask waht Obfuscate's defining
characteristic is and someone doesn't answer "stealth" then I think
we've gone too far. :)

I'm also fine with Disciplines branching out into new areas when it is
harder to come by in the new area. I think giving Celerity stealth
through Alacrity is a great example of giving a Discipline a new
ability but still making it clear that it is out of the mainstream for
that Discipline (2 blood cost).

I doubt it will quite ever reach that point. :)

IMO, no. We're fine.

I agree that we're seeing expanding horizons for the disciplines, and
all these are good examples. But I do not find this to be a sign of a
dreadful future where every single disciplines does everything, just a
sign of variety. Sort of, is the glass half-empty or half-full?

I'd be worried if the disciplines started to do completely unusual
stuff - like a strike for +2 requiring Obfuscate.

I stated a long time ago when I will stop buying VTES.

When Auspex gets an unconditional stealth card or when Obfuscate gets
an unconditional intercept card.

Not that I don't see valid explanations for these, how supernatural
foresight can help you evade someone who wishes to prevent you from
success, or how the ability to remain unseen can help you in tracking
someone, but adherence to the source material is secondary in this
issue (as IMHO everything can be reasoned pro and con). However,
adherence to the basic focus of each discipline would show a
characteristic absence in these effects. Such a phenomenon would
raise serious questions regarding the marginal benefit subsequent
expansions can provide for the game.

Personally I think its a good thing in moderation. By expanding the
disciplines a little in this way it helps out with new deck design, and
gives some small boost to the other clans..
