I am working on a rebuild for a customer. They brought in a tower that 'a friend' had tried to work on for them and would no longer POST. Upon inspection, I discovered that a couple of pins in the CPU socket were bent, so I ordered a new motherboard for them. I received the motherboard and as I was about to install the CPU, I realized that there is a discoloration along one corner of the contacts. I'm wondering whether it would be safe to try and use a 90% alcohol to clean the contacts? Or should I just try to install the CPU the way it is? Might this actually damage the new motherboard? Should I just tell the customer that they need a new CPU without even bothering to test it? These are expensive parts so I'm being cautious. I'll try to find a way to attach images of the discoloration (seeing if these links work)
