I think for 1080p 60 hz 970 runs game smoothly and provides a great gaming experience and like Renz 496 said earlier nvidia optimized the drivers and helped with game patches to give purchasers a better experience in response to the original issues...

Considering the 980ti beats the titanX or exactly match's its performance in pretty much every single test buying a titanX for gaming over the cheaper 980ti is stupid to be honest. Watchdogs was a sad excuse for a game anyway and COD ghosts i never played as im no cod fan. I know however i can play bf4 with 200% res scale and hold over 60fps though at ultra. Yes the 780ti is limited above 1080p there is no arguement there because of its vram. But with some overclocking to the vram it helps alot.

Stavromast do you have any hard proof directly from nvidia that the new cards are going to have 8gb vram? Or any verified by nvidia info on the new gpu's?

I am really confident that they will in order to support new shitty ports,compete with the amd's offering and make up for the 3,5gb issue

Those 3.5GB initially not an issue. But with more and more games develop for current console only (no 360/PS3 version) game VRAM requirement suddenly spike. you can even said those 3.5GB is an evolution and better implementation of wierd VRAM config nvidia has done in the past. I've played some titles that can exceed 3.5GB VRAM and yet i see no issues with those game except ACU maybe but with much recent driver those stuttering no longer there though i did not test them extensively. but that's not the story with my GTX660. pretty much stuttering will happen once VRAM usage exceed 1.5GB. But back then it is rare for game to use 1.5GB VRAM because ultimately 660 will lose it's grunt first. I have 660SLI in the past. Only have 1600x900 monitors but due to 660 raw power i can crank up my game setting (like AA) and increase VRAM usage but it hardly break 1GB. Now in games like AC unity even 2GB seems not enough even at 1600x900.

Does anybody think the gtx 970 will get a price drop once pascal comes out?

I'm going to upgrade my GPU sometime this year, I'm debating whether to get a cheap GTX 970 or a Pascal gtx 1060.

It would have to be dirt cheap and the Pascal x60 series replacement would have to be pants, but as there are no benchies yet (and might not be until about mid May I reckon, before they start surfacing), good luck with that! :lol:

Fortunately, my Grandpa droped off his gaming PC dad and I built him during the Haswell days (CPU is a 4770). He says he might want a laptop to replace his gaming PC so I might be able to snatch that GTX 760 sitting in his box for free. 😀

When dying light came out My friend would get hitching/stuttering on his 970 however the 980 was much better...
Drivers and game patches fixed this issue...

Like you said earlier Nvdia found a way to address some of the challenges...

Absolutely! Syndicate is another game that benefits from more VRAM. Near perfect experience required a Titan X last time I played when settings maxed with FXAA for AA.

980 ti should do the Job as well, if my memory is correct Syndicate uses over 4 gb and less than 5 gb of vram @ 1440p...

The realty is that by turning down settings in some lower end graphics cards will provide a great gaming experience.

If i had a 1080p 60 hz monitor I would using a gtx 970...

My Titan X slightly beats both of my buddies overclocked 980 ti's @ stock settings If I OC I will get a 5 to 10% increase in performance.

Titan x will last longer than the 980 ti because of the extra VRAM, Games like Shadow of mordor, Rise of tomb raider, cod black ops 3 use more than 6 gb of vram at 1440p. At 4k this becomes an even greater challenge...

Most likely at some point an 8gb card 1080 or 1080 ti or what ever it will be called will be released and more games will start using more than 6 Gb of vram.

The 980 ti will probably have enough horsepower for them but not enough vram. The 980 ti users will be forced to upgrade unless they don't play the title with the extra vram requirements or make a compromise and lower the settings which is the logical thing to do...

This is not a new phenomenon, the 780 ti has more than enough horsepower to push watch dogs however textures need to be lowered to avoid hitching and stuttering however the 970 has no problems with watch dogs...

I'm on 1440p with an R9 390, but medium settings, so that could be why I have less.

I'm on 1080p60hz with gtx980ti so I will not worry about any Pascal except last series during next year in case that 980ti can't handle 1080p anymore. Glad that I did this buy when I had money.

Yea i wish nvidia hadnt crippled the 780ti with 3gb because its got the power to do some serious damage but its vram is limiting. Although i play at 1080p so they are perfect for me.

That's right! The 390 is a pretty good card for 1440p if you lower the settings a bit... The 290x is a more relevant card than the 780 ti because of the 4gb frame buffer in my opinion.

I think there might be some games that use a lot of vram that do not require a ton of power in the future that will make the 390's 8 gb frame buffer shine in the future.

Have you tried shadow of mordor?

I don't think they would do that because nobody would buy the Titan black which is essentially a 6 gb 780 ti with DP compute...

Hence they block partner from making 780ti 6GB. but i also believe even without gamer there is plenty people will buy titan black solely because of that unlock DP. because as i said it is the market that amd did not dare to play with.

I imagine those that cannot afford telsa P100 might be hoping nvidia will come out with another titan with unlocked DP with GP100.

I think whatever the flagship model is this year maybe what pushes me to upgrade. I dont know yet i love my 780ti's. I guess it'll depend on price.

I was really considering to upgrade to a gtx 960 now, however I do plan to buy a 4k monitor once they dip below $250 so the gtx 960 is a no go. Time for the painful wait for the gtx 1060.

What I get out of that reference design is a GPU perfectly capable of some triangular 1990s polygons. 😛
