Hello, this is my first post, not sure if I'm putting it in the right place, but will try my luck. I am not proficient with computers, and this is the first time I'm sort of building / scavenging a computer.
I am currently having a problem where I am seeing a DISK BOOT FAILURE error message every single time I try to power on the computer.
I am currently using:
GIGABYTE GA-G31M-ES2L REV 1.1 motherboard (USED)
Was using Seagate HDD, now changed to Kingston Digital 120GB SSDNow V300 SSD
E8400 CPU (USED but from a different computer than the motherboard)
The first time everything was put together (using the Seagate HDD), the computer started up fine, and it loaded Windows 10. The second time it booted up, I started getting a DISK BOOT FAILURE message, and it would freeze at 0% on the disk check. When I left the disk check as it is, the computer blue screened. Subsequent boots didn't recognize the hard drive anymore.
Thinking it was a dead hard drive, as the Seagate hard drive was pretty old, I replaced it with a new Kingston 120GB SSD together with a new SATA cable, and was planning to do a clean install of Windows 10 using a Lexxar 8GB USB through the Media Creation Tool. Except, I can't seem to install windows. Every boot is still just showing a Disk Boot Failure.
Things I have tried:
- Used the Boot Menu (F12) and selected the USB to boot. (It was found in the + hard drive option, which when selected gave an option of either the Lexxar USB or the Kingston SSD). This option still just sent the computer into a DRIVE BOOT FAILURE. Pressing the ENTER key shows the Windows 10 logo in the center of the screen and nothing else.
- Changed boot setting in bios to USB-FDD and then USB-HDD in the boot priority as the 1st boot priority. Same thing as above, DRIVE BOOT FAILURE, into Windows 10 logo with everything else black.
My question is, am I doing something wrong? I checked all the cables, and they're all connected correctly, the USB is plugged into the rear ports straight to the motherboard, and I don't have a CD Drive.
I have looked through a lot of the posts here, and I did find that some motherboards maybe just don't allow booting through USB, and will require a CD Drive but, is that the case for me? I am able to select the USB in the Boot Menu when I select hard drive?
I am really just baffled and any help would be great.
