Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter

So whenever my computer boots it does this and when I put in an XP disk, it does the full setup minus the colorful part, after hard drive formatting, then goes back to "that screen". I also tried installing Zorin 9 via a CD and the same thing happened; I went through the setup and then restarted it and got DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER. The same thing happens every time. I have formatted the hard drive, reset the Bios and nothing. The hard drive light on the front of the machine is green but sometimes shows orange. another thing I noticed is that in the boot menu, only the cd-rom appears as if there isn't a hard drive but I know there is because the XP and linux disks show it. The computer is a Compaq Presario SR1215CL. Any ideas? I am lost.

Well if you formatted the hard drive, that means there is now nothing on it. You need to install an operating system.

Yes but as I said, the XP and linux disks both do the same problem. How else do you reccomend I do it?
