Hi, I have a gigabyte z68 mobo with 4 drives connected to it, one being my CD/DVD rom drive. Currently running windows 7 enterprize (64-bit). I have a 128gb ssd as my boot (C: ) drive, 1tb hdd as D: drive and a 3tb hdd as E: drive.

About 1 year ago my 1td hdd D: drive had been showing signs of it beginning to fail, so I bought and installed a back up 3tb hdd to back up all of my 1tb hdd which I had done successfully on multiple occasions and have a back up saved from only a few weeks ago.

My 1tb hdd had been working with only a few faults in the last year and it finally gave out over the weekend. This was evident when I tried to open a file that was stored in my D: drive that gave me a message that the drive it was on was not connected (or something along those lines). Now when I go to boot I get the "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER" when trying to load the OS.

Now, I do not know how to go about recovering the back up from my 3tb drive. I tried to unplug the dead 1tb disk and tried booting without it to no avail.

If you could talk me through recovering the back up and restoring my computer, or link a video that explains how, I would be greatly thankful. Any help is appreciated.

-Mike

P.S. disk orientation in SATA ports is as follows:
Disk 0: empty
Disk 1: empty
Disk 2: 3tb hdd
Disk 3: 128gb ssd (boot)
Disk 4: CD/DVD drive
Disk 5: 1tb hdd

Hello There,

read an article about boot disk failure, the same issue u facing. read the article hope this solves your query https://www.winhelp.us/restore-a-system-image-in-windows-7.html.
Boot from the installation DVD and select the option to recover; then select the backup and restore to the replacement hard disk. Could you explain why the SSD is the boot drive and you can't boot from it if you remove the 1TB drive? Did you disconnect all hard disks when you installed the OS on the SSD?
