So I'm trying to install Ubuntu on my PC. I had problems with windows 7 since I used a cracked version, so I used DBAN to wipe my HD. I burnt an image of Ubuntu 64 bit on a DVD, and inserted it, but the computer won't read it. It starts up fine with my computer info, then tries to load OS, then says:

Boot from CD/DVD :
DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

I've scoured the internet to find a solution, but I don't understand. Some people talk about master and slave IDE, and such, but I've never understood how it all works.

I've installed an OS on this PC before using the same method (the cracked W7).

MB is a Gigabyte GA-H55M-S2, CPU is Intel Core i3 530 @ 2.93GHz, and I have 4GB DDR3

I'm in BIOS settings right now, so I'll list the IDE master/slave stuff:

First boot is CDROM and 2nd is Hard Disk

IDE Channel 0 Master [None]
IDE Channel 0 Slave [None]
IDE Channel 1 Master [None]
IDE Channel 1 Slave [Hard Drive]
IDE Channel 2 Master [Optical CD/DVD Drive]
IDE Channel 3 Master [None]

This seems wrong to me, but I've never touched these BIOS settings so... I did however build the computer myself, and don't know whether the physical configuration of the SATA slots makes the difference.

I don't really know, hence why I am here.

Another thing to note is how I burnt the image. I dragged the iso file into the DVD, then burnt it. Is that wrong?

Thanks,

You are right! I could SWEAR that I did it right, the DVD bottoms even look the same.

There should be in built contingencies for when burning ISO type files or images.

Thanks
