Ever since Windows 10 updated, my ssd drive C: will regularly spike to 100% causing programs to not respond for about 10 seconds. My mouse will still move but all programs will not respond for the 10 seconds. I did a total system restore yesterday and it fixed the problem. But when I shutdown the PC at the end of the night, windows updated. Voila, problem is back after windows update. I Disabled MSI controller but it has done nothing. I'm stuck at what to do and super frustrated. I have plenty of free space on the drive 90GBs free out of the 120. Help plz :'(

Let it do the updates until it has no more updates to do. If you want this to not pop up in the future there are various "solutions" to turning automatic updates off.

To verify that it's Windows Update open up Task Manager and order the tasks by highest disk usage. It should be one of Microsoft's services that's causing this (do NOT end the task).

Was watching processes and waiting for another freeze. When it froze up and the disk usage went up, the only processes that were high on the list were system, google chrome, and service host. But they were only using like maybe a few mb/s, nothing crazy.

Fair enough, i see fair share of fails but then I realise 400 million PC got latest update and I know I haven't had to answer that many questions :)

A lot of people are still getting 1607 still so it depends on what update they just got as to its chance of failing. Especially if PC was already an upgrade from win 7 and hadn't had a fresh install since going onto 10.

I found a post with someone having the same problem. All they did to solve was change the power plan to high performance. I just did that and it seems to help. Time will tell. I'll also try to check windows update.

EDIT: Windows update checker said everything is up to date.
