what the heck is this? no matter what can't remove it.
 
That refers to "If you compress the data on that drive, it will result in 10.4GB less space consumed".

At the expense of performance, because the system has to work harder to access that compressed data.

Leave it unchecked. There is no reason to have that data compressed. Drive space is cheap.
 
Maybe you had also checked off the "Downloads" option when doing the disk cleanup, which deletes all files in your downloads folder. The same thing happened to me until I realized I selected to delete the downloads folder too, which is super annoying.
