My computer startup was slow. I found, via this forum from my other thread, I had to defrag my computers c drive. Started it about 2 hours ago, and its only done "Pass 9: 1% defragmented".
Before, the 'current status' of it was '21% fragmented', which is quite a lot I guess? (http://imgur.com/p2XlQqn) The thing is, at this rate it could take a WHOLE DAY to fully defrag my c drive.

Why is it so slow?
How much longer to I need to wait?
How many passes and will it finish at 100%??
Can I 'stop' it now and possible run it overnight whilst I sleep...(I doubt it will finish overnight).
Can I have it runnning and also browse the net, do work, play games via steam, origin etc? My pc is running slow at the moment. I could just about get on this website and make the thread, it took soo long and it was slow due to the defragmenting process 🙁! HELPggggg

P.S I am using the computers default defragger. Should I cancel it and download the cc cleaner one or is it too late?

Yes you can stop it and run it while you sleep. Turn off any screen saver and make sure it will not sleep/hibernate etc, and turn monitor off/laptop set it to turn monitor off when lid closed. If it's too slow for your lking download a third party defragger such as 'defraggler' or 'my defrag' both of which are free and try them out. I find 'Defraggler' to be faster than most and definitely faster than the windows defragger. It's best to NOT use the computer while it is defragging the drive, probably will not defrag correctly etc...

Why would it be damaged?? I read, for some people it takes hours, even a day possible, depending on how much defragging is required. Whats HD tune and where do I download it? I doubt I need to buy a new one as no data loss is occuring. It seems fine?

Are you sure I can stop it? Since creating this thread, I did some research and it said "You can cancel the defragmentation but it is not a good idea. Files are being moved around in the hard drive and if it is stopped in the middle of moving a file, then that file could become corrupt. The consequences depend on the files in question.". Which is worrying! Can I still play games or no?

Yes i am sure but again it is entirely up to you. I have done it in the past many times when i had to leave on a call and could not leave my system running. And NO do not play games or use your system while defragging the drive. And FYI- ccleaner is NOT a defragger. It is a "crap"cleaner and thats it. If you want a third party defrag app/program try defraggler, you can get it from cnet.

Ok so should I stop this one and download the cc cleaner defragger as its better and faster? Does it mess it up if I use 2 different defragger programmes? I read it is safe to stop it, but what does it say after? Is there a 'resume'? Does it start again? or carries on from where it left off?

So I cannot play ANY games at all. I cant stop it, play games, then resume? How about youtube, facebook, twitch?

First off if you have a SSD, DO NOT DEFRAG SSD.

Defrag takes a long time, it's perfectly normal, when you haven't done it for a while. You all want perfect performance and do in 5 seconds. Next time, schedule to run, say at least once a week, in the middle of the night, then it won't go for so long. Is like cleaning you room after 1 year of neglect, guess how long it's going to take.

Yes, it's recommended to do a HD diagnosis before running a long defrag.

How do I know if its an SSD I am defragging? All I know is that its my C drive. THe image shows what needed defragging.

I didnt do a HD diagnosis, should I stop it? I am getting responses from different views so am confused and worried. I dont want anything to break!!

yep, it is natural if you used a lot of space
defragging time is depend on how much size data do you have

but, usually partition C should not contain much data
beside, you said your startup is slow, it may cause by slow data read
what is your partition C used space and free space?

Defragging completed but it was doing some 'Consolidated' thing which took wayyy to long.
Not quite sure about the partition part, however my c drive capacity is 1862.33GB. Free space is 784.01GB. 42% free. Hope it helps!
