Hi,
This is my first question here....
For about a month I have been having problems with my desktop running Windows 7. The OS is on an SSD, and there are five HDDs too. Usually I only connect those drives I need, leaving the remaining ones unconnected. The other day I connected all of them, and (I think) that's when problems began.
One drive - a WD 1TB - started to throw errors. The errors are: 'Smart event occurred on disk WD-WCC6Y1TXJSEA '(Event ID 4103), and an occasional warning 'The driver has detected that device \Device\Harddisk2\DR2 has predicted that it will fail. Immediately back up your data and replace your hard disk drive. A failure may be imminent' (Error ID 52).
Upon listening, I could hear a sound like the drive trying to power up, and then fail. This sound is repeated.
Then I noticed something. The drives are set to sleep after 20 minutes. If the other drives are sleeping, this particular drive has no problems. No error messages, no sound, nothing. But if the other drives are working, this drive will again have these problems. New error messages, and the sound.
I checked the drive with HD sentinel, and saw this message: '
Failure Predicted - Attribute: 184 End-to-End Error Count, Number of parity errors during transfer between the cache RAM and the host.
59 errors occurred during data transfer.
In case of sudden system crash, reboot, blue-screen-of-death, inaccessible file(s)/folder(s), it is recommended to verify data and power cables, connections - and if possible try different cables to prevent further problems.
More information: https://www.hdsentinel.com/hard_disk_case_communication_error.php'. The number of errors (59) has remained constant. It has been 59 from the beginning.
Could it be that the drive does not get enough power? Is the number of drives the problem? The PSU is somewhat old, only 450w.
What is worrying me is that there is one more month left on the drive's warranty. But if the problem is not with the drive, and drive is otherwise healthy, I do not have to send it for RMA.
What should I do? I will appreciate your valuable help. Thanks.
