from Belarc Advisor...how eminant is drive crash? Should I get out and start new Toshiba Win7 immediately?

It only concerns me where there are conflicting opinions. Running a BIOS quick check says failure and S.M.A.R.T. Drive says healty. Thought someone might have experienced same problem and had definitive answer. Guess the "owner" can just wait and see...hope they are not in the middle of work when all their data crashes.

Any way you can remove the HDD and place it in someone else's computer to run a scan?

No, it's in use 10 hours+ everyday. Do you know of a reliable online HDD scanner?

Only one I know of off the top of my head is the one Western Digital gives you to use with their drives.

Does anyone think there is an "answer" to this problem?

Have not seen one yet...

I guess there is no program which can say the HDD will crash or not...well let it die and I'll autopsy the body and let you know.

HDD still running but to be safe bough new Win7 Toshiba AMD E-450 4 gig 450 meg. So, if other HDD dies have backup.

Still running strong...must be just an abnormality and of no general global interest.

not a subject to study.

Honestly, I think you are fine. One of my HDDs reads as bad in Vista, but when scanned in other computers/OSes, it reads as fine. Just be sure to back up your data, which you should do anyway regardless of drive condition.
