My friend has a ho pavilion desktop and he was at my house on my pc I built a few years ago and I asked him what's wrong with his pc I went to his house and started it up and it says disk read error ctr alt delete to restart I csnt access the bios so I assumed his hard drive was faulty I plugged his hard drive into my PC and it does the same thing will not boot and says disk read error just wanted to confirm my suspicion that the hard drive is faulty and that a new hard drive would solve the problem thanks

Hi there THECHiLLINKiLLER,

I would also agree with WebBeachBoy and say that the drive is most probably dead. Though, it will not hurt to try to attach it to your computer as a secondary one and see whether it will get detected(Disk Management). If it does, then you can try some data recovery tools and see whether you will be able to recover any of the data.
If the drive is not detected by Disk Management though, and he needs the data, you will most probably need to contact a data recovery company.

The BIOS is contained in a separate chip on the motherboard so the BIOS is always accessible even if the hard disk is faulty or removed. You usually access the BIOS by pressing the 'Delete" key or the F2 key after powering on. It does sound as if your friend's drive is dead.......
