I read among many topics debating this 100% disk usage, but I'm getting nowhere... To me is happening something odd with disk 100 usage... I am runing windows 10 pro x64. In task manager at "Performance" tab, it's showing 100% disk usage, the graph is on the roof. But if I go to "Processes" tab, in the same time, disk usage is at exactly 50% (!?!?) I move back in that second on "Performance" tab, disk is 100%. When this happens, the web pages won't load, I can't open any new windows, I cant right click etc. If I try too much, everything freezes. After a short period (30-50 seconds, rarely up to 2 mins) disk usage drops suddenly, everything is back to normal, and any mouse commands given in the blocking time, starts to pop on the screen... What could cause this??

My specs Are:
500W ps
AMD FX 6300 3,5 Ghz
Asrock 970 Pro3 R2.0
8 GB RAM HyperX Fury
120 GB Kingston UV400 SSD
1 TB HDD Seagate Barracuda
Gigabyte Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050

In terms of software i tried many things: Installing antivirus pro from beginning, Disabled superfetch, windows search, and many more ideas which I read about on the forum, but nothing worked. I reinstalled Windows several times, tried all versions (7 x32, 7 x64, 10 x32, 10x64), but the problem presists.

I tought maybe is a hardware problem, I borrowed some components from my friends, for testing: DDRAM, SSD, HDD, the power supply. I even bought a new mainboard...and still no luck... What could be the problem? The CPU?? I am really out of ideas...

I'm sorry for my not-so-good english :)

Cheers!

You didn't mention anything about rebooting the computer. First reboot.

Then after the reboot you can sign in and ONLY open Resource Monitors > Task Tab and check the activity again. Let us know the status after that.

I sent you a PM.
One likely suspect could be your antivirus program doing an automatic periodic scan. When you go to the Processes tab in Task Manager, click on the Disk column heading to sort disk activity and see which task is the most active. That should tell you what the culprit is.

Thanks for the replies guys. I tried to do a screenshot but when PC freezed, i couldn't... I managed to do one with the Task manager window open (showing 100%), and in the same time, I took a photo with my mobile phone with Resource monitor window, while PC was still frozen.

I don't know how helpful images are, but it was the best I could do. As I read on forum on different topics, I tried other solutions that worked for others: Change the power plan from "balanced" to "high performance", disabled antivirus, disabled MSI, restarted PC and so on...but still no result.

I tried lots of times before... I reinstalled windows dozens of times, and built lots of systems to my friends, colleagues, family etc... and this dind't happen...even on weaker machines and different brands and sockets (Asrock, Gigabyte, MSI, Asus, AM2, AM3, AM4, 775, 1151 and so on..). I have some experience... but this problem made me crazy already... I guess I will have to go for a new mobo + cpu + ram, AM4 i think. I built a system like that to my brother in law about 3 months ago (who usually keeps about 30-40 opened tabs in chrome - never had a crash or freeze) and it works flawlessly. The last chance that I'll give to my PC, probably, I'll look for an AM3+ CPU to borrow, and see if the problem persists.

Guys, I don't know if you will read this after all this time, but the problem was the processor back then. I RMA'd it, and got back the money paid for it. Sorry for the 6 year delay reply 🤦‍♂️
