So, basiclly, im running Windows 10, which apparently has a rampant disk usage problem. There are tons of solutions ive tried on google to no avail (prefetch, superfetch, disabling windows notifications) none have done anything for me. Starting to feel hopeless as those are really the only solutions out there. Basically, if launch the computer disk usage sits at 99% for a good minute, it also happens when Idle at times, but never happens whilist playing games? Ill be real honest I'm at wits end, I have nothing else I can do. I dont exactly know if this is going to screw up my rig either, as I type this, my disk usage is not at 99%, but its pretty frequent, I dont get why it would happen on idle and not with games? Ughh, lol. Any help is super super appreciated. Example: http://imgur.com/LVZWcgT

My build: i7 6700k, Noctua NH-D15, g1 gaming 7 z170, 16 gb 3000mhz corsair vengeance, WD Black 1tb harddrive, Windows 10 Pro 64bit

Cheers, Reckoner.

It acts almost as if I've caught it red handed, when I came back from a smoke break I noticed this: http://imgur.com/9zq422J It dropped to 0 as soon as I moved the mouse. I snipped ASAP. Thank you for your help btw, I'm feeling real desperate.

Hi there Reckoner97,

So after you unplug your mouse, the disk usage drops right?
Have you tried to boot into safe mode and see if the issue persists?

Testing the drive will not hurt: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility
Sometimes, a failing drive could cause high disk usage.
Also, you can try something simple as just attaching the drive with different cables(especially power one) to another port.

Not quite, basically my disk usage was super high and I just moved my mouse and it dropped, not unplugged. Almost as if I caught it doing something wrong. It doesn't do it while playing games or anything I don't suspect its a failing drive tbh, I dont freeze, I dont lose preformance (As far as Im aware), it just shoots to 99% idk. Mostly when I first start the computer and when it idles

how would I go about turning it off, I do often see "Antimalware Service Executable" using a lot of disk. But I never downloaded anything besides malewarebytes which is turned off and this problem has been occurring before I had even downloaded it so it would have to be software that came with windows by default since this is a brand new rig.

Another swing and a miss, I feel like theres nothing to do about it.
