Hello tom's hardware community!

I need urgent help!

So here is my problem, diskpart will not let me perform a command, but when I type "list part" it shows that partition 1 is selected. Here is a screenshot that I took of the command prompt.

I really hope that you guys can help me! I am almost to the end of a tutorial that I was doing and this is the last part I need to do.

Thanks for providing the link; off the top of my head, this seems to be a problem with permissions. As you know, you must have admin privileges in order to use diskpart. Otherwise, diskpart won't work, and IIRC, it won't tell you why it isn't working. Also (IIRC), EACH TIME you try to use diskpart you must take administrator privileges again BEFORE it will work, although that isn't explicitly spelled out in the tutorial you are following.

I think you're on the right track, and I also cannot think of any other reason why diskpart wouldn't allow you to make those changes EXCEPT for the lack of administrator privileges. I don't know which OS you're using right now (Vista / Windows 7 or Windows XP), so just follow the directions from the...

I think you're on the right track, and I also cannot think of any other reason why diskpart wouldn't allow you to make those changes EXCEPT for the lack of administrator privileges. I don't know which OS you're using right now (Vista / Windows 7 or Windows XP), so just follow the directions from the tutorial which apply to you:

Vista/Windows 7: click "Start", type "command" and, when "Command Prompt" appears in the search results, right click and "Run as administrator"

Windows XP: click "Start", "Run", type "cmd" and press enter

Again, do this EVERY TIME you try to use diskpart at the command line; otherwise, diskpart won't cooperate, it will simply block you.

Good luck; let us know if this works for you, or if you encounter another problem.
