Question DISM, Install Windows updates through VM ?

My question is there a way to install Windows updates through DISM access of a VM? Hyper-V failed to do so, because it could not detect if OS could install updates.

I have tried loading the target USB SSD in Hyper-V to in-place update. The install package said, 'because it cannot determine the OS ability to update, you cannot update.' or something to the effect, I'm paraphrasing.
