Display blacks out after Windows start screen

Hi,
I have a high-powered rig with a GTX 1080ti running on Windows 10 Pro 64bit. Last week I deactivated Windows fast boot and since then I get a dark screen when I boot up. I switched to HDMI from Displayport and I can get to the Bios screen as far as Windows start up, but then it goes dark as well. Using HDMI instead of DP I can also get into Windows Safe Mode through the recovery page, but DP gets no signal at all.

I get no error messages and through the Bios I can see the hardware is working fine. I've tested the graphics card separately and there are no problems. I've tried another display and I get the same result. I've also connected a laptop to the display and that works fine. Since then, I´ve reset Windows and done a fresh install and reinstalled the latest graphics driver, but still no change. A lack of display makes it hard to do any kind of diagnostic tests from within Windows.

Just a hunch, but I have a feeling there is some kind of hardware/driver conflict that is effecting the HDMI/Displayports and interfering with the signal to the display. I've heard Windows fast boot can create certain driver problems. Could there be a connection? Any ideas or solutions?

Thanks in advance.

I have the following spec:

  • CPU i7-5820k
    MB MSI X99 SLI Plus
    RAM 2x16GB Corsair 3000 mhz DDR4 RAM
    GPU Asus GTX 1018Ti FE
3 x 500GB EVO Samsung SSDs in RAID array
PSU: Be Quiet Dark Power Pro 850W Platinum
Display: C49HG90DMU Samsung ultrawide monitor (49")

It is USUALLY highly recommended to turn OFF hibernation and hybrid sleep/fast restart in Windows 10. It has been well known, since Windows 8.1, to cause a variety of problems. More trouble than it is worth in almost every case.

Try resetting the BIOS by removing the CMOS battery, with the power off, for two minutes. Reinstall, power up, into bios, configure settings, restart.

If that doesn't work, then it is not a bios configuration issue. Could be a failed output on the graphics card. Probably also a good idea to update the motherboard bios if it is not already up to date.

Thank you. I did that and I reset Bios with the jumper but still no change. I´ve read about something called DDU which completely uninstalls the display driver, I may try that.

Hi Darkbreeze
Thanks for your help I will check out the tutorial.

However I found out that this is an issue with the monitor, as I discovered after much fooling around, see links below, and had all my hardware checked out. What I think happened in my case is that I disabled Windows (10) fast boot and as I understand it Windows stores certain drivers and other utilities in hibernation so that it boots faster. So I presume that one of the MB's port utilities or the display utility/firmware update was disabled and that's why it wasn't showing any image. After I clean installed Windows, I connected another monitor so I could reinstall all the MB utilities and display drivers/firmware and then reactivated fast boot and since then it works fine. I honestly don't know which of the missing drivers or utilities was causing the problem.

Obviously judging by the forums below this display has or had issues with the displayport. I notice that it still flickers on an off during start up, but at least it's still stable once I get to Windows. Hopefully they will clear it up soon. I will add the monitor C49HG90DMU to the key words. Maybe this should be moved to "Display" forum?
