I have an old HP Pavilion P7-1587cb A8 desktop that I was going to set up for older gaming via Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit with an old R7 360, and a OEM Dell PSU rated @ 460 watts.

I had an old 40gb SATA WD HDD that I installed that a friend gave me and put the Windows 7 DVD in. First I would get video, and then it would be gone. If I hit the input button on the TV sometimes the picture would return, sometimes not.

While I did have video I eventually got a bsod that said irql not less or equal. Sorry I don't remember the error code number. I tried again and it did start to install Windows, but then bsod stating something to the effect that a problem has been detected and Windows has shutdown to prevent damage.

I tried installing Windows again and it seemed to be working, but then video went out again. At this point I just wanted to make sure the R7 was not shot as it worked fine the last time used about 6-8 months ago and stored carefully.

I tried a really old HD 6450 that I currently use in another old setup and at first the video worked just fine, but the it too stopped. I even tried a working HDD with Windows 7 in the P7 PC, and it had conflicts and stated Windows needed to run repair which it ran, but could not fix. I even tried on board video via vga port and no video at all.

I put the working Windows 7 HDD back into my currently used Windows 7 rig and reinstalled the HD 6450. It ran fine with no issues at all.

At this point it looks like the P7 is really messed up, and I am not sure where to start. It does not even allow me to go to setup or BIOS at restart. The option never appears, and I even tried f2 and f10.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

First step, reset CMOS.
